Greg Williams and Troy Montgomery Circa 1982

Much Has Changed, But The Service Remains The Same!

Troy and Norma Montgomery founded Surplus Center of Lubbock, our predecessor, in 1960, as a military surplus store.  In 1969, Greg Williams (Troy and Norma’s son-in-law) joined the company.  Over the next few years, Greg began diversifying the company’s inventory to include tools.  In 1980, Greg and Linda Williams purchased the company and changed its name to Texas Tool & Equipment.  By that time, the company had evolved into a full-scale hand and power tool distributor.

In 2018, we were greatly saddened by Greg’s death.  Greg was a friend and a mentor to many at Texas Tool as well as within our community and industry.  He was a remarkable man whose leadership, energy and passion shaped our company’s culture and success.  He is greatly missed, but his core business values remain:

  • Offer an extensive selection of high-quality tools;
  • Have a highly knowledgeable sales team;
  • Aim to be the lowest-cost supplier;
  • Know your customers and establish long-lasting relationships with them; and
  • Value your family, community and faith.
